On the product page, Galaxus provides specific information about the product and service quality of an item, such as how often items of the respective brand in the respective product category break during the warranty period, how long it usually takes until a warranty case is settled, or how often products from the brand in the category are returned by customers. This information is presented in the form of a ranking of comparable products and manufacturers. Oliver Herren, Chief Innovation Officer at Galaxus, claims that no other online retailer or manufacturer discloses this kind of data, especially not in the depth that Galaxus provides. ecommerceDB has analyzed the new return rate feature, which shows how often products of a brand in the respective category were purchased and returned on Galaxus in the past 12 months. A closer examination of the smartphone category reveals significant differences between brands.
Based on the smartphone return rates observed on Galaxus, it appears that Apple is the most popular brand among customers, with a return rate of only 2%. Samsung closely follows with a return rate of 2.1%. Most other smartphone manufacturers in this selection have return rates below 6%, putting them on the lower end of the ranking. However, two well-known brands, Huawei and Microsoft, stand out with high return rates of 14.5% and 17.4%, respectively. These are the highest return rates among all smartphone brands listed on Galaxus, which includes 35 brands, some of which are less well-known, such as Cubot, realme, or Oukitel. Only five out of these 35 brands have return rates above 10%, which is uncommon for consumer electronics products.
In contrast, shoes and clothing often have higher return rates. For example, Nike currently has the lowest return rate in the sneakers category on Galaxus, which is 16.4%. The new return rate and warranty comparison features on Galaxus could potentially have a significant impact on the Swiss online retailer, as they provide buyers with more information to make informed decisions, while vendors can potentially reduce logistic costs by lowering return rates and attract more customers.
